The righteous cut (while conscious)

Play it: The Sopranos Ep. 6.03

The moral dilemna here is... do you pay a hefty tribute to the boss' wife if it looks like boss isn't going to pull through? Paulie, ever the moral character, contemplates this conundrum through much of the episode.

When he and Vito cough it up after Tony comes out of his coma, Carmela realizes it's an act of consciousness, not concience.

Meanwhile, Tony's still stuck in his Costa Mesa purgatory, with one horizon ablaze with fire, the other aglow with the sun. While he hangs out at the bar, we're treated to another tune from legendary organist Jimmy Smith (the second in as many episodes,) this the 20-minute cut "The Sermon" from his excellent album of the same name. Frank Sinatra's "Oh! What it Seemed to Be" seems to be telling us something about Tony and Carmella's relationship, while Al Green's "Look What You Done For Me" is also telling, as Christopher feels Tony owes him for delivering Adriana. And the whole episode ends, once again, with a foreboding song, this time Daniel Lanois' "The Deadly Nightshade."

Good soundtrack stuff last night, once again.... still on pace for the best Sopranos season yet, in every regard.

Oddly enough, I can't wait to watch it on DVD as well!

There's so much rich symobolism and subtext going on so far this season... more television should be like this. I think this is time I've ever watched episodes of television and wanted instantly to watch them again. Not since the first few episodes of Twin Peaks, anyway...

I hope they put it out right away!
