Music on TV - Week of 02.27.12: Bruce Springsteen

It's Bruce Springsteen week on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, with the Boss himself making appearances Monday and Friday.

It was only about 18 months ago that Bruce Springsteen took over Late Night with Jimmy Fallon for the talk show highlight of 2010, both for performance and his candid interview with Fallon -- but mostly for the showing his rarely seen funny side, dressing up as 1975 Bruce to join Fallon's Neil Young in a rendition of "Whip My Hair" (see video below). This time around The Boss is getting the full week treatment that Fallon has laid out for previous legends like The Rolling Stones, Bob Marley, and Pink Floyd, with Springsteen bookending the week with performances of his own on Monday and Friday.

Tuesday will see country music star Kenny Chesney tackle the Boss' "I'm on Fire" (from Born in the USA). The highlight might be Thursday, though, with Elvis Costello (who's given tribute before) joining The Roots for a rendition of "Brilliant Disguise," from Tunnel of Love. Springsteen is making appearances of late to drum support for his latest release, Wrecking Ball, which is due to hit shelves March 6 and features the last recorded sounds of the E Street Band's late Clarence Clemons on saxophone (on "Jack of All Trades" and "Land of Hope and Dreams"). His very large shoes will be partially filled by his own nephew, Jake Clemons -- along with longtime sax sidekick Eddie Manion.
