Music on TV - Week of 05.21.12: Afghan Wigs

The Afghan Whigs reunite to perform on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday.

It's been over a decade since we last saw the Afghan Whigs perform together, but like many 90s acts that never quite got their due, they've recently answered the critics call to reunite. Frontman Greg Dulli is curating a day for the New Jersey edition of the annual All Tomorrow's Parties Festival (coming in September), and it only seemed natural to get the band together for the occasion. Leading up to the festival, though, the band will be making their first network television appearance in some 13 years, playing Late Night With Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday night, before headlining a show at Bowery Ballroom on Wednesday night.

The Whigs aren't stopping there, though, as just last week the trio released their first new recording in over five years (there were two new tracks added to their 2006 Greatest Hits release). It's a cover of the 1970 soul track "See and not See" by Marie "Queenie" Lyons, with the band turning the song's bouncy funk into an acoustic dirge, which is right in the Whigs' wheelhouse.
