A new Low

I'd like to thank whoevever invited Neil Young's Ragged Glory guitar sound into the studio for the latest Low album, The Great Destroyer. (Listen here.)

The Duluth, MN trio's normally slow, quiet songs get a bit of a fibulator charge this time around with producer Dave Fridmann (Flaming Lips, Delgados, Mercury Rev) twisting the knobs on their 7th studio release. It's as close to pop as you'd ever expect Low to sound, which, I imagine, will cause a collective groan to diehard Low fans everywhere. Personally, I think it's a great transitional record, and necessary as the slowcore movement they helped start has gotten bogged down and needs a bit of a kick. It's not their best or most original, but still a worthy album of attention and promises more from the band to come.
