The O.C. - Booze, drugs, guns and Marissa on a limb

The O.C.
The O.C. Season 2 mix, Ep. 1-12
The O.C. Season 2 mix, Ep. 13-24

After a disappointing season, the O.C. ends on some serious drama.

In the final episode we get a funeral, a death (and nearly another,) a drug deal gone bad, an intervention, and Marissa Cooper as killer-at-large.

Outside of the last couple episodes, the effect of The O.C. and much to do with music. Five interesting artists performed at the Bait Shop (The Walkmen, The Killers, The Thrills, Rachel Yamagota, Modest Mouse and Death Cab For Cutie,) and several bands made major musical premieres on the show.

Beck premiered a total of five songs from his yet-to-be-released (at the time) Guero. Spoon premiered two tracks ("Sister Jack" and "I Turn My Camera On") before Gimme Fiction came out. The Gorillaz premiered two tracks from their soon-to-be released album Demon Days, and Coldplay premiered a track called "Fix You" in ahead of their summer release.

Whether or not you like the show, and I'm mostly indifferent - I watch it both in support of my wife, and for the music - you gotta give them props for taking repeated chances with their weekly soundtracks.

Now... we just have to wait to find out poor Marissa's fate.

These are great playlists.

I still can't bring myself to watch the show. It helps that CSI is on at the same time. Otherwise, I think I'd be hooked.

yeah, it's not top notch entertainment, but as far as guilty pleasures go, it's not so bad.

There's a surreal thrill of seeing 90210-like drama with Of Montreal's "The Party's Crashing Us", or Mark Lanegan's "Strange Religion" playing in the background.

I've trolled the boards for the show, and most the music related posts are "who was that band" with a pledge to find and buy the album, so if it's getting the kids to listen to something besides the crap on the charts, we gotta give Schwartz some props.
