Requiem for a soap opera

Six Feet Under - Season 1

Ok, so last night's season (fifth - last and final) premiere of Six Feet Under didn't yield the playlist that I thought it would. That happens... so I'm falling back on another related project, a season-by-season recap of the music on the show, which is always an interesting mix of genres.

Six Feet Under
It only looks like a happy occasion
But it did yield some of it's best melodramatic moments. Makes you wonder if life could get any worse for it's characters. I mean, it's not like Audrey's last 24 hours or anything... but if anyone thought that this season was going to be the one where everyone finally got something to be happy about, you just got played.

(Spoiler)
Brenda and Nate finally are going to tie the knot, and what do you know, since we last saw them, Brenda is preggers as well. Complete with the preview photo to the upper right here, it looks like happy days are here again, right? Well... as her mother says right before the wedding: "Honey, don't worry about everything working out perfectly, because that ship sailed a long time ago." This because of Brenda's miscarriage the day before her wedding. So now Brenda's got to walk down the aisle worrying about whether or not her dead baby will be oozing into her wedding dress - the doctors can't get her in for the procedure until after what's supposed to be her 'perfect day.' Yes, it sucks that bad.

Meanwhile, George has gone completely batty with paranoia and has been shipped to a mental institution where he agrees to shock therapy, which we're treated with visually. Claire's now with pyscho Billy, and we're left with plenty of obvious foreshadowing that soon both mom and daughter will be living with crazy men. Billy's obviously more dangerous, and Nate's more then happy to warn her repeatedly.

Geez... welcome back to the monkeyhouse.

We're addicted to the show as well.

Since they moved it to Mondays I have to say "thank goodness for DVR" as I can't imagine missing an episode to attend our weekly parents group meetings (PEPS).

It's basically become just a well made soap opera the past couple seasons, but oh - what a soap opera it is!

Well lookie here... The Arcade Fire recorded a song for a Six Feet Under soundtrack release. These seemingly incongruent posts align more and more as time goes on!
