Springsteen 'walk in' music

Bruce Springsteen's 'Walk in' music:
Vol. 1 - Vol. 2 - Vol. 3 - Vol. 4 - Vol. 5

Bruce Springsteen just played here last night, and I'm sorry I missed it - had a chance to get tix at the last minute, but balked at going alone or finding someone to go (my baby and my baby's mama are out of town.) It was apparently pretty powerful (and apparently pretty quiet.)

Anway, one of the traditions of a concert tour is the 'walk in' music, ie, the music that is playing while folks walk in to the venue and wait for the performer to come out and begin the show. Well, Springsteen has 5 volumes of walk-in music (14 CDR's apparently,) and he has a tracklisting on his website. It truly reads like a history of American music.

There are a few albums that have the bulk of their tracks on the list:
Roots Music: An American Journey
Beautiful Dreamer: The Songs of Stephen Foster
Songs Of The Civil War
The Byrds Sweethearts of the Rodeo
Neko Case The Tigers Have Spoken
... and a lot of Bob Dylan (no surprise there.)

But where there is a surprise is in some of the more avante-garde artists featured like Sleater-Kinney, Antony & The Johnsons, Nas, Beck, The National, The Sleepy Jackson, Evan Dando, My Morning Jacket and The Clash as well as newer alt-country acts like Jay Farrar, Whiskeytown, The Old 97's and Jim White. His walk out music is Four Tet's "Slow Jam." Bruce is all over the place... it's a pretty cool mix.
