Bumbershoot, Day 1

Play it: Bumbershoot 2005 - Friday (Updated from July 21st post)

The 35th annual Bumbershoot will feature four days of more than 2,500 artists on over 20 stages and venues. The first day, Friday (today!) features the reunited New York Dolls, along with other notables such as M. Ward, The Blue Scholars, Garbage, The Donnas, Chris Stamey, The Ruby Doe, Stan Ridgeway, Mavis Staples and Smoosh.

SmooshMy picks for the day are:
Smoosh (4:45-5:45PM, EMP Sky Church) Two Seattle preteen sisters that can really play
Blue Scholars (6:30-7:15PM, What's Next Exhibition Hall) A Filipino MC and a Persian DJ from Seattle. Last year's self-titled debut made nearly all best of lists where it was heard. Yes Seatte, there is a hip-hop scene here.
New York Dolls (7:45-9:00PM, Mainstage) Just a taste... "you best believe in luv!" ...then move on to:
M. Ward (8:30-9:45PM, Broad St. Lawn Stage) Voice gives a stark, other-worldly presence
Maktub (8:45-10:30PM, Bumbrella Stage) you can catch the last bit of soul of the evening here.

There will also be donation stations throughout festival grounds to collect funds for the Red Cross and Task Force One to assist with disaster relief in the states affected by Hurricane Katrina.
