Play it: Pitchfork's Top 50 Albums of 2005
Pitchfork, as expected, listed their top albums of 2005. No surprise who comes in at #1... not only is Sufjan Stevens sweeping the indie year-end lists, but he also wrote an album called (and about) Illinois, nearly guaranteeing favor with the Chicago online music rag. I imagine if you combine his score on even the most pedestrian of year-end lists, he's far and away got enough votes to win this Heisman trophy of Album of the year.
Naturally, there's a ton of stuff not in Rhapsody yet, I mean fer chrissakes... they even list a demo tape here. It's as devisive as ever (Cam'ron at #9? Come on!) But like in years past, the ratio (currently at 60% [30 out of 50] for 2005) will go down with additions to the library. And hey... Rhapsody has 9 out of the top 10, which is pretty good.
I'm anxious to hear more of Isolée's We Are Monster (or is it Wearemonster?) and the recent album from Love is All. All in all, though, seems like a mixed bag of a list this year. Can't wait until next year.
Compare Pitchfork's to my top albums from 2005.
