Play it: Eli's first tiki (First birthday party)
Eli turns 1 today, and we celebrated this past Saturday with a little tiki party for folks that know and love him. I had some fun putting together his playlist, and I've highlighted a few tracks that I particularly enjoyed throwing back a mai-tai to. Of particular note, to the occasion anyway, was the album
Tiki Tunes For Tiny Tots - like someone created an album specific to the party. Not everything on it works, but for those that have always wanted to hear a Bob Dylan tune done tiki style for kids, this is your best bet.
Naturally, we had plenty of Martin Denny and Arthur Lyman for the necessary Exotica sounds, but I also filled out the 4-hour playlist with some soundtrack faves like Nelson Riddle's Lolita ("Lolita Ya Ya") and a track from The Graduate ("Sunporch Cha-Cha-Cha".) [Odd that the themes of both these movies is a bit inappropriate for a one-year old's party - not that they'd understand.] But I think my favorite song was Zacharias' take on The Doors' "Light My Fire." Truly inspired stuff.
The cake was Pina Colada, and spelled out "Happy Birthday Eli" in Hawaiian. I thought about pulling out a limbo stick, but the lil' ones had too much of an advantage to make it any fun, and Daddy's competitive as all get out, so I nixed that idea ;)

Awww! happy Birthday to him and congrats to the proud parents! He is such a cutie pie!
Thank you!
Daddy's also very proud that he discovered his penis on his first birthday. Mom, on the other hand, was a little freaked out.
