Ear on TV: Week of February 5

Fitting that this, one of the most boring weeks for musical guests, would feature Norah Jones, who's latest album Not Too Late hit shelves last week. I'm sure it's helped many a listener sleep easy with it's sultry slowness, but this listener finds the lack of variance a bit grating on repeated listens. Still, she pulls off her live performances with style and grace, and so it's at least worth mentioning her appearance on Leno Wednesday night (and, I suppose, to provide an opportunity to slog the album.)

A better pick, would be Calexico, who appear on Conan a night prior. Their sultry slowness is one rich with the sounds of the Southwest and a little bit of famed composer (and spaghettie western soundtrack extraordinaire) Ennio Morricone. A much more interesting way to fall asleep. if you ask me.
