Wow, I would love to see Elvis Costello with Stevie Wonder. Stevie Wonder's music transcends and seeing Elvis Costello talk to him and bring his personal excitement and deep musical knowledge should make for at least one hour (if not more ala Bruce Springsteen's 2 hour session). I also think that Stevie Wonder's sense of humor gets buried sometimes. I think this forum would allow that to be seen more.

I would love to see either Van Morrison or Bob Dylan. I gather they would be difficult "gets," though!

1 - Jack Benny
2 - Art Blakey
3 - Pete Seeger

Some names that would have been great on Elvis' "couch":

Paul McCartney, possibly with George & Giles Martin
Tom Waits
Bob Dylan
Van Morrison
Joni Mitchell
Radiohead

Definitely not having Macca on this season was a bit of a let down.

I would have liked to see EC sit down with Ray Charles, James Brown, and Bonnie Bramlett. And I say this as a huge fan of EC since 1977.

I think a show with Johns Flansburgh and Linnell from They Might Be Giants would be entertaining. Lucinda Williams might be interesting too. David Byrne would probably make for a good show. Oh, I'd love to hear a conversation between EC an Bjork. And of course, Tom Waits is always fun.

I always loved the Macca collaborations that Elvis did in the early 90s, but it always made me wonder what it would have been like if he'd collaborated or performed with John Lennon. They're both so cynical and inspired by so many different things - it would have been awesome. Also, Lennon was a great interviewee back in the day.

For me it would have to be Leonard Cohen! Sure Dylan and Waits and Van and Macca would be cool, but Laughin' Lenny tops my pick.

Paul McCartney

Well, being the 12th to comment with my two favorites on this thread already (Dylan and Cohen), I am going to have to vote for the female contingent and go with...

Carole King, songwriter extraordinaire.

Elvis interviews Elvis, of course! Elvis P. would have had fun with a British guy stealing his name. I'd pick Elvis in '68 or so, right around the special (if the Post Office lets you choose between Elvises, I think I can here), because he seemed very confident. Also, imagine what a "pit session" they'd have together!

Tom Waits. Definitely.

I already got to see Rufus with him! But after that I'd love to see all of Squeeze together to speak to him, or perhaps Peter Case!

CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED. Thanks for all your entertaining and thoughtful suggestions.

I dreamt I was at a SPECTACLE taping that featured the reunited Pavement, the classic lineup of Guided by Voices, with both joined on stage and throughout by members of Silkworm and Archers of Loaf. My pillow was covered in a lot of drool when I woke up from that one.

Will be announcing winner in this space shortly...

tuned for winner...

I need to migrate to Wordpress so I can do it w/o it being visible to everyone. All it takes is a block of time...
