Everything Ends: Six Feet Under OST Vol2
Two Six Feet Under posts in one day? Why not. This little nugget of a soundtrack slipped in nearly unnoticed this week.
Now I know what you're thinking: "Drake, I don't have HBO, why would I care about this soundtrack." To which I'd say "DON'T BE SUCH A WHINER!" and bitch slap you across the room.
No. I wouldn't do any of that, but instead tell you that that SFUV2 has exclusive tracks from The Arcade Fire (who love to sing about death,) Interpol, The Caesars, and Jem. And... (AND!) features the only track from Radiohead that you can listen to in Rhapsody ("Lucky" from the great OK Computer.)
There, now you're on board. Ok, let's continue. This soundtrack works pretty well in the context of the series (see: recaps) and while Coldplay has been played out in the series ("Clocks" was the soundtrack to their ads a season ago) I'm glad to see the track here is "A Rush of Blood to the Head" as it works better with the Fisher & Diaz Funeral Home drama then "Clocks" ever did. The only fault I have with this album is the eight minutes of Death Cab For Cutie's "Transatlanticism" which I don't think it really needs at all. The classic selections standout well - Nina Simone's "Feeling Good" (which was their soundtrack to ads last season) and Irma Thomas' "Time is on My Side". The Bebel Gilberto remix ("Aganju") even surprisingly fits in well.
Of the exclusive tracks, I'm most surprised by JEM's "Amazing Life." I've been leery of her Dido-lite songs up until this one, and perhaps her performance at Sasquatch also has me rethinking my indifference. The Caesar's cover of Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear the Reaper" (get it?) is fun, but not terribly original. Interpol's song is an instrumental, so make your own judgement there. I'm happiest to see a new song by The Arcade Fire and, really, with an album like Funeral you'd hope they'd be on Six Feet Under somehow, some time. It's not a revolutionary track from the band, but it's nonetheless nice to hear something else in Rhapsody.
Now, if only they could cheer up the characters a bit, all would be right.
