The stiff of the week (SOW) is a diabetic named Daniel who decides to give in to his weakness for peaches. Yup... he eats a peach and we fade to white. Just like that. Diabetics everywhere take cover! Over breakfast Nate suggests they invite Maggie over and Brenda decides to spring the 'who's your mommy?' question on Maya one breakfast and naturally freaks out Nate. Argument over said venture ensues, festers, and boils over repeatedly. Simmer for the rest of the show, salt and cool to taste. David and Keith go to an adoption fair, pursuing both sides of their two-pronged attack on getting a young houseguest. Here David meets and connects a sweet black kid named Anthony, who's in denial that his mother's coming back from rehab. Keith finds a bond as well, as they both make fun of David. The surrogate calls, though, and announces that she's preggers, so Anthony's in the rear view. Claire begrudgingly agrees to meet Billy in a diner where he tells her he's back on his meds. Claire's all 'good for you, is that it?' and Billy backtracks saying he just wanted some closure, and Claire's fine with that and considers it closed. Ruth sleeps with Farmer Hoggett and acts like it's one of her chores, recoiling at George's attempt to 'close the distance between them.' When Vanessa doesn't respond to Julio's bully activity at school, Rico, feeling even more desparate to get back home somehow, decides to step in and meet with the principal, where he insinuates that Vanessa's got him in a bad environment and that Rico can fix it. Vanessa gets called to the principal's office which means Rico's "got sum 'splainin' to do!" SOW's family fights over what to do with the remains and the music to be played ("his favorite was Frankie Yankovic!" [cue polka music] "No, it was Herbie Hancock!" [cue Hancock's "Rockit".]) Billy's (& Brenda's) mom calls Claire implying an emergency to meet with her, where she tries to negotiate her back with Billy. Billy shows up, sobs, and Claire retreats to the restroom, but instead sneaks out. Maggie +1 (Farmer Hoggett last minute addition) show up at Brenda's where the fight continues, and Brenda informs her guests that there is a fight going on and tries to bring their guests into the 'who's your mommy' debate. Ruth's knitting circle is hot on Ruth shedding Farmer Hoggett and the leader (apparently a former soap star) tells how she coerced her alcoholic ex to go out on his own. Ruth seems to like said plan and tells Farmer Hogget that they should move out and "get a fresh start." She's leaving out the part where she eventually moves back and leaves him there, though... it's a different sort of fresh start then George understands it to be. The surrogate stops by unexpectedly and tells David and Keith that she's not preggers, that she's instead as batty as they suspected: she never even took a pregency test. So how about that Anthony? A visit to the agency reveals he's got an 11-year-old older brother (danger, danger!) Keith doesn't hear the alarms and welcomes the idea of bringing in the brothers. Nate, after getting some advice from the SOW at his viewing ("I want Maya to have a Mommy..." complete with "Rockit" playing in the background,) Nate apologizes to Brenda and they agree that Maya can find out who her real mommy is. But as for finding out that her real mommy got pregnant and trapped Nate into marriage, and that she was having an affair with her brother-in-law, and that he might've killed her before killing himself, and that the aforementioned brother-in-law may or may not be her biological father... well that nice story will have to wait until she's older.
