Basement Hitchcock

Fegmania at the workplace!

Robyn Hitchcock stopped by yesterday and played a few songs from his album Olé! Tarantula for a Rolling Stone original ep to be released later. I've seen Hitchcock several times (my 21st birthday back in '89, being my favorite) and also own (and love) the Jonathan Demme directed documentary on him, Storefront Hitchcock, so I had to resist all urges to go all fanboy on him.

Album: Robyn Hitchcock - Olé! Tarantula

He played the title track, "Adventure Rocketship" and "Red Locust Frenzy" from the album, along with an old classic "Queen Elvis" (to which Hitchcock drolls "a song which is unavailable...but you can get it anywhere... you just.... can't... pay for it.) There were many funny and extemporaneous asides that I just can't do justice too (many involving Chairman Mao and the Pope.)

The song "Olé! Tarantula" featured a shout-out to friend and co-worker Linda Ryan, who's been friends with Robyn for 20 years now. Her pet chinchilla (Tripod - has only three-legs) is honored in the song's bridge (I feel just like a three-legged chinchilla...)

That's enough sharing for now... maybe this weekend I'll post about our (stolen) car being found (haven't seen it yet, but I'm told it's totalled.)

Well just color me jealous. I had a couple squirrels come by my place of work the other day.

In related news, it was a positive turn when they enabled the between song bits on Storefront Hitchcock earlier this year. Now if we could just get some of the records with the Egyptians in Rhapsody that'd be a right celebration!
