Sell-out, maintain the interest

Play it: The O.C. Ep. 3.11

Back in September, I jokingly theorized that Gang of Four re-recorded their favorite songs (for Return the Gift) w/ updated sonic blasts in hopes of having it played on The O.C., like the folks reaping benefits off their sound (Bloc Party, Franz Ferdinand, The Futureheads, etc.) Well, my freak dream happened last night when G4's "I Love a Man in Uniform" ("... the girls, they love to see you shoot!") played after the first break. All I could do was shake my head and smile. If Clap Your Hands Say Yeah say No to the O.C., you'd think that the question put to anti-consumerites Gang of Four would be a no-brainer... but I guess they have to 'maintain the interest' so to speak.

Let's revisit some lyrics from Gang of Four:
"See the girl on the tv dressed in a bikini
She doesn’t think so but she’s dressed for the h-bomb"
- "I Found That Essence Rare"

"The problem of leisure /What to do for pleasure
Ideal love a new purchase /A market of the senses"
"Sell out, maintain the interest"
"This heaven gives me migraine"
- "Natural's Not In It"

Both of these from their landmark Entertainment album.

Outside of that, this week's soundtrack also featured a cover of Crosby Stills & Nash's "Our House" (by Phantom Planet) and Rogue Wave makes a fourth appearance this season, but most aptly, when the beginning of their song, "California," comes in slyly: "Screw California..."

What happened in the show? The usual... conflict created... Seth and Summer come up with a plan and put it into action... Marissa annoys us... plan appears to have no hope... everything's resolved in the end. Sandy Cohen cemented as the perfect dad. The end.

We're all just waiting for Kaitlin Cooper (Willa Holland) to make her appearance next week (might I suggest Gang of Four's "Damaged Goods" for the ep?)

hmmm.... this is a weird string. I only watch the OC as one would watch a car wreck - The G4 submission was sad (how the might have fallen), rogue wave was boring, but I thought the song by francine (strange name) sounded pretty cool - grabbed the song from their site - and in fact they are pretty damn cool, and the lyrics do not suck. Sort of like aimee mann but sung by a dude.
